Catholic Diocese of Ilorin, Kwara State, Bishop Anselm Lawani, has tasked Nigerian leaders on the delivery of desired dividends of democracy to the people.
The bishop, who stated this at a news conference to mark the 2024 Democracy Day, said Nigerians were suffering under high inflation and hike in the cost of living.
Lawani hinted that the greater percentage of the populace was living below poverty line in the midst of abundance of human and natural resources.
He noted that, when a nation’s wealth are well managed, the people well governed, the citizens are better off, in terms of their social well-being.
On the minimum wage issue, the Bishop appealed to federal government to pay Nigerian workers an acceptable living wage and to equally introduce tax holiday and zero tariff regimes or provide financial support for the entrepreneurs to grow sustainable productivity in the country.
Speaking on the situation of security, the cleric maintained that more needed to be done in intelligence gathering and surveillance in order to overcome the challenge in the sector.
