The member representing Darazo-Ganjuwa in the Federal House of Representatives, Mansur Soro, has donated a Massey Ferguson 375 tractor to support farmers ahead of the rainy season.
Donating the tractor alongside other farm inputs, Soro said the support is part of the Darazo-Ganjuwa Farm Mechanisation Support Initiative, designed for the use of registered farmers.
He said the donation is an addition to the same brand of tractor facilitated after registering the association with relevant government agencies in the year 2020.
The lawmaker explained that the programme targets the cultivation of one acre of land per participant, with a projected harvest of forty bags of paddy rice valued at N2 million.
He revealed that the second phase of the programme will come after the implementation and evaluation of the first phase by a team of farm extension officers.
Soro expressed commitment to helping bridge Nigeria’s rice deficit, estimated at 3.5 million metric tonnes per year.
