First Lady Remi Tinubu donates 110 million to families of late Kano athletes

The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appreciated the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Remi Tinubu for donating 110 million naira to the families of the 22 Athletes that died while returning to Kano from the National Sports Festival.

The Athletes who died some 5 kilometers away from the ancient city of Kano have won several medals from the competition. 

In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kano State Governor, Mustapha Muhammad, the governor thanked the Wife of the President for the gesture.

It said the First Lady sent a delegation, headed by the wife of the Deputy Senate President, Hajiya Laila Barau Jibrin to condole with the governor and the people of Kano State as well extend the donation for onward distribution to the families.

According to the statement, Remi Tinubu had in the past donated two hundred thousand naira to two hundred and fifty elderly women in Kano, and fifty thousand naira to five hundred women for small holder farmers.

While appreciating all that donated to the families of the victims, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, said a high powered committee would be inaugurated for the onward distribution of all the donations to the families of the victims.


Similarly, the governor also appreciated those who gave donations to the victims of fire incident at Farm Centre phone market, including Deputy Senate President,  Senator Barau Jibrin.

Presenting the donation to the state Governor, Laila Barau Jibril said each member of the 22 families of the victims will receive N5,000,000.
