The Senate says it is considering a legislative move to institutionalize a presidential address every June 12, in recognition of the day’s historical significance.
This is just as it is also considering the change of venue of presidential inauguration to the National Assembly from the current Eagles Square venue.
The Leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele, disclosed this in an interview with reporters, stating that the Senate is hoping to prepare a bill to formalize the President’s speech to the nation on that date.
He also announced that the Senate is considering an extension of the implementation period for the 2024 budget, particularly its capital expenditure component.
On constitutional reform, Senator Bamidele acknowledged that progress has been slow but assured Nigerians that the process is ongoing.
He asserted that the committee is at the final stage of its work and plans to hold public hearings at zonal levels in the coming weeks that would lead to a joint public hearing coordinated by the House of Representatives and the Senate.
