The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, FCT Chapter, has suspended its three-month strike action, with a directive for all members to resume work immediately from midnight, Tuesday July 15, 2025.
The decision followed the intervention of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who ordered the use of 10 percent of the Area Councils’ Internally Generated Revenue to pay off three months’ salary arrears owed to local government staff.
In a statement issued at the end of its State Executive Council meeting the union’s State Secretariat in Gwagwalada, NULGE said it arrived at the decision after exhaustive deliberations and appeals from the Minister, FCT Traditional Council, and other key stakeholders.
The union explained that it would collaborate with a Special Committee constituted by the Minister to harmonize all outstanding arrears within two weeks, aiming for a holistic resolution through the National Assembly House Committee on FCT and ancillary matters.
