The federal government has dismissed eight officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for alleged involvement in various acts of misconduct.
NIS Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, who stated this in a statement, said the government’s action was contingent upon the recommendations of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) Disciplinary and General-Purpose Committee.
It said the government also compulsorily retired five officers, reduced the ranks of eight others, and dismissed two junior personnel from the Service for criminal acts, involving kidnapping, stealing, and illegal possession of firearms.
The statement explained that the Board’s disciplinary committee reviewed thirty-one cases involving personnel and officers of the NIS.
It added that while the Board also reviewed and rejected the appeal of two officers for lack of merit, it is to reinstate one officer following a successful appeal, and exonerate two officers against all charges.
