The federal government has vowed to track all funds released for the implementation of Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) in its new 2.0 Guidelines.
The Ministerial Oversight Committee (MOC) Secretary, Dr. Oreshoremi Ogbe, stated this at the onboarding of State Oversight Committees (SOCs) from the North-West zone held in Zaria, Kaduna State.
He expressed concern that the 2023 BHCPF Audit Report showed persistent accountability issues, stressing the need for stricter oversight to ensure funds released reach the citizens in dire need.
Dr. Ogbe assured that the Federal Government would follow due process to ensure that monies earmarked for the implementation of BHCPF benefit the most vulnerable layer of thesociety.
He explained that the Guideline 2.0, recently inaugurated by the Minister of Health, aimed to improve implementation outcomes by enhancing transparency and accountability in the management of health funds.

“The revised guidelines will deepen the understanding of expanded roles defined in the new guideline, which places accountability and transparency at the center of the fund’s management.” he said.
The MOC Secretary added that the BHCPF 2.0 was designed to improve healthcare delivery, enhance the governance of health financing, and ensure that funds reach the most vulnerable population.
He emphasized on accountability and transparency in the management of health funds while bringing more funding to the sector at the sub-national level.
In his remarks, National Coordinator, Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) Coordination Office, Dr. Muntaqa Umar-Sadiq, noted that the BHCPF 2.0 represents a renewed commitment by the Federal Government to ensure improved governance of health financing.
