The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has distanced itself from widespread rumours suggesting that Governor Bala Mohammed may be considering a move to the party following the reported challenges of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the country.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the PRP said that even if the rumours were true, the party had no intention of admitting the governor into its fold, insisting that its principles and values are incompatible with his style of leadership.
According to the statement signed by the State Secretary, Hon. Wada Abdullahi, the party outlined several reasons for its position.
The PRP faulted what it described as the governor’s “poor performance” in office, saying his stewardship has fallen short of the expectations of Bauchi residents.
The party further referenced what it called the “unruly conduct” of the governor and his supporters during recent developments at Wadata Plaza in Abuja. It said such behaviour contradicts the party’s long-standing commitment to discipline, orderliness and political decency.
The statement also revealed that the PRP, if elected to lead Bauchi State in 2027, plans to investigate the governor’s administration and review policies it considers detrimental to the growth of the state.
It specifically mentioned the creation of a First Class Emirate and the appointment of Governor Mohammed’s elder brother as Emir as actions that warrant scrutiny and possible reversal.
Despite its firm position, the PRP noted that its doors remain open to individuals who have contributed positively to the development of the state and who share the party's vision for progress and accountability.
“The PRP remains committed to serving the people with integrity, discipline and dedication,” the statement added.
