KDSG moves to tackle ginger blight, improve food production

In an efforts to prevent the recurrence of ginger blight in the state, the Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has assured that, his administration will procure clean ginger seedlings for distribution to farmers.

The Governor stated this while launching the distribution of farm inputs, seeds and farm equipment to hundreds of farmers in Kafanchan, for smallholder farmers in Southern Kaduna Senatorial zone.

The Governor distributed agricultural inputs and equipment worth millions of naira as support to small holders farmers from the eight local government areas of southern Kaduna.

The support under "Tallafin Noma Initiative" is aimed to  address key challenges in the agricultural sector in order to restore the glory of farming and the joy of rural living. 

Speaking on the gesture, Governor Uba Sani reiterated that, agriculture remains one of the topmost priorities of his government as demonstrated with the allocation of over twenty-two billion naira to the sector in the 2024 budget.

While describing Small Holder farmers as critical stakeholders in the quest to ensure food security, the governor pledged to begin distribution of subsidized fertilizers for the farmers in the next few weeks to enable them have bumper harvest in this year's farming season.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Murtala Dabo, said the farm inputs and equipment distribution, was a confirmation of Governor Uba Sani's commitment to rural economic revitalisation.

The commissioner urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the equipment and input for their economic prosperity and national food security.
