The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission says it has tracked a total of 1,440 projects valued at N271.054 billion within the last two years.
ICPC chairman, Dr. Musa Aliyu, revealed this at a One-day engagement with journalists in the North-West and North-East held at the Bristol hotel in Kano on Thursday.
He explained that 767 of the projects, valued at N112.737 billion were in the North East, while 673 projects valued at N158.317 billion were in the North West.
“But the real story in project tracking is this: citizens and journalists who flagged abandoned projects made these interventions possible, ensuring resources reached the intended beneficiaries”, he said.
On cash recoveries, the ICPC chairman said a total of N7. 269 billion and $1.066 million were recovered in the North West, while N43.335 million was recovered in the North East.
“This is in addition to seized assets in the Northwest, including 14 buildings, 25 plots of land, and three farmlands,” he said.
The ICPC boss said the commission is not only blocking leakages but also ensuring that resources reach citizens who need them most.
He, therefore, called on the National Assembly to expedite the passage of the Whistleblower Bill, which will empower citizens to report corruption without fear.
Dr. Aliyu also appealed to the media, to support ICPC's efforts through investigative journalism, holding leaders accountable with facts, and avoiding sensationalism that could undermine trust in the collective war against corruption.
