Following reports of a fresh outbreak of Ebola Virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that there are no cases of Ebola virus disease in Nigeria.
In a public health advisory issued by the agency on Saturday it said the DRC’s Ministry of Health reported 28 suspected cases and 15 deaths, including four health workers have been recorded in Kasai Province.
“There are no cases of Ebola virus disease in Nigeria, as at now,” the advisory reads.
NCDC Director-General, Jide Idris, said Nigeria remains free of the disease but has intensified preventive measures, including heightened surveillance at borders and airports.
It directed health facilities nationwide to strengthen infection prevention and control practices, urging Nigerians to maintain proper hygiene, avoid contact with individuals showing symptoms of unknown infections, and report suspected cases immediately via the toll-free line 6232 or state hotlines.
The agency also advised against non-essential travel to countries with confirmed Ebola outbreaks, and directed that travellers arriving from affected regions who develop symptoms such as fever, diarrhoea, vomiting, or unexplained bleeding should self-isolate and promptly contact health authorities.
The NCDC said it is closely monitoring the situation in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and African regional health bodies.
