The Northern Governors are renewing commitment to tackle security, economic and educational challenges hampering on the development of the region.

Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, disclosed this during the joint meeting of Northern Governors and northern council of traditional rulers held in Kaduna.

Governor Yahaya said achieving sustainable development and addressing insecurity in particular requires collective responsibility from citizens as well as government.

In a welcome address, Senator Uba Sani of Kaduna State, who is the host, said the country’s central policing system can no longer cope with emerging security threats, noting that many communities remain unprotected.

He insisted that states should be allowed to establish their own security outfits to better safeguard lives and property.

Speaking on behalf of traditional leaders the Sultan of Sokoto Saad Abubakar expressed readiness to partner the federal and state governments in achieving a society free from crime.
