Explosion kills 5 in Kano

Kano explosion

Kano state police command has confirmed the death of five people from a military grade explosive in the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who arrived the scene shortly after the explosion, said the blast may have originated from a military ordnance believed to have been improperly handled or transported.

He said incident occurred at a scrap collection company located at Eastern bypass in Kano state.

CP Adamu explained that 15 people who sustained various degrees of injuries have been taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where they are receiving treatment.

He said preliminary findings suggest the explosive material was being transported by a trailer, but it remains unclear whether the vehicle was carrying military personnel or contractors.

The Kano state police boss added that authorities are yet to confirm the exact cause of the explosion or the ownership of the explosives, noting that the facts will be clearer once the investigation is completed.
